Approximately 50 automobiles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.
Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.
Officers report they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued substance.
The substance had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Officers then found multiple other vandalized vehicles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report preliminary tests suggest the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.
"There is still no clue as to its source; officials are not yet cognizant of any injuries in connection with the incident," they added.
City officials said they were working "to unravel the case" and have requested to the residents for details.
An important official stated the vandalism rendered him without words and had to be solved quickly.
"This act affects the center of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right attack in 2020," he wrote on a platform, referring to the death of nine people by a shooter targeting people of migrant background in February 2020.
